Hardware Guide for Star Citizen

The information and advice presented on this site are influenced by numerous variables, making it impossible to apply them universally to everyone. Therefore, it is recommended that you take everything with a grain of salt and read the details below to gain a better understanding of what you are viewing.

What is the data and how to interpret it

The data on this page is sourced from the endpoint of the Telemetry app. This data comprises performance data represented by 'buckets' displayed as square boxes on the page, each containing information on CPUs, GPUs, and average fps. By parsing the CPU and GPU names, I collected the average fps value for each CPU, GPU, and CPU + GPU combination.

While the CPU and GPU pages may provide some useful information, the combined page offers more comprehensive insights.

However, it is important to note that the Telemetry data does not account for several variables, such as network speed, memory capacity and speed, and storage, which could impact the accuracy of the performance data.

Generic advice

Storage

For optimal performance, it is recommended to use an NVMe SSD, but at least a SATA SSD is necessary. Attempting to play the game on a HDD will result in an unplayable experience.

When selecting an SSD, it is important to focus on IOPS (input/output per second) values, particularly QD1 (queue depth 1), rather than bandwidth.

Memory

A minimum of 16 GB RAM is required for optimal performance, but it is recommended to have at least 32 GB. If you tend to keep numerous applications running simultaneously, you should consider upgrading to 64 GB.

Peripherals

While the use of joysticks is entirely optional, they are recommended for a more immersive and competitive PvP experience. The game is fully playable with just a keyboard and mouse.

HOSAS (two sticks) are recommended over HOTAS (throttle and stick).

Head tracking

Completely optional. Improves the immersion.
